October 16th, 2007Top reasons why people stick to their organisations…
Hi guys,
During my stint of more than one year at GrmTech I have seen many a faces come and go. At times I have wondered as to what is leading people to leave the company even though it was providing enough flexibility. My curiosity drove me to explore and find out the tentative reasons as to why people do leave companies. But in an attempt to be a little different this time I tried to find out why people stay with their organizations instead.
Here’s why,
1. Better pay packages is by far the most attractive factor that acts as the decisive factor for one staying or not with an organization.
2. Opportunities for faster learning is also an improtant reason that keeps employees stick.
3. Growth Prospects (professionally)/ career or job growth is often looked upon by people as a good scope for the future.
4. A friendly and team based work culture is a must for big companies trying to keep their employees with them for long. It is seen that a non-friendly work environment affects the longevity of employees with their companies.
5. Value added job enrichment.
6. Right man at the right place concept implementation.
7. Basic utilities upkeep.
8. Participative orientation towards organizational development.
9. Human element: Humans as a Capital and not resource only.
10. People stay with companies where emotional aspects are duly considered.
11. Motivation & Morale building is also an important aspect.
12. Good people stay where leadership traits are identified & utilized as well as developed.
13. Where mentoring is done for assuming higher roles and responsibilities.
14. Good people would always like to stay in a company where they can gel well together with their colleagues.
15. Employees would always want to stay with a company where they see the possibility of their dreams getting fulfilled.
16. Challenges at work keep people motivated to go the extra mile.
17. People would always stick to companies where proper training for further development and grooming is conducted.
18. Efficient organizational policies for development and functioning also keeps employees stay put.
Its quite obvious that the non-availability of the above aspects force employees to leave their organizations. I am a complete layman when it comes to HR but the above data was collected from various sources and I shall be the happiest person in the world if it makes sense for the HR Manager of a Company.
Time to take out the blogging cap for now!
Cya and Happy Pujas.
Enjoy!

It is quite simple to understand the nature of men when it comes to what they dont want to do. What is difficult is to discern what people want to do and why.
Anand has answered a lot of questions that might have been latent in our mind. It was great reading what you have researched. Way to go…

I appreciate your way of explaining this serious topic, Anand.
Well, in another simple way- A person’s job is his cup of tea and the company is the cup. Some like to try different cups and some like to experiment with his tea. If one feels that his cup needs to be replaced… he tries for it.

Even I appreciate your way of explaining this sensitive topic and that too putting your own views along with the tried and tested conventional reasons. At the end of it it all comes down to the human psychology because I am working here not because of MONEY(because I used to get a much higher pay package in my previous organization) or fame(because I have worked with ITC INFOTECH,VSNL,WIPRO and IBM…before joining GRMTECH).I look for overall satisfaction (because you will never get everything in one company) and family factors does play an important role as well.So it all boils down to human psychology rather than any conventional stuff, but at end of the day it’s my view and arguments will be there because everyone’s psychology is different.
Looking forward your next post….Happy PUJAs.:)

shorter commuting time is another important reason…there could be many more factors. sometimes people leave an org simply for ‘a break’.
when a party rules a state for a long period of time, corruption, laziness enters into the system sometimes unknowingly. same thing is true for people.
assume that a person is holding a position for 5 years…if the person is creative and dynamic, even then a kind of boredom can grow up inside him (slacking attitude, laziness as well). organizations should rotate such people within various internal processes i think.

a man may also leave an org because there is no good-looking girl

Nice Post Anand, but tell me one thing:
In marketing we know that POS (point of sale) plays not only an important role but also a decisive role in client’s decision making. Can you relate someone’s leaving an organization (not a job always) with that POS phenomenon?
I think there can be thousands of reasons to leave an organization but there is only one reason for staying with something – “I Am Staying”.

“IamnoHR” but what “Iamsaying” is that “Right man at the right place concept implementation” is the most important reason why I will say “Iamstaying” in a particular organization . All other points that you have mentioned follows….
One more reason why one may stick to an organization is maybe that company may have better provision of Feviquick or Fevistick
